A Hamas delegation arrived today at Cairo for crucial negotiations on a truce in the Gaza Strip to overcome the last hurdles to an agreement that would provide for a six-week ceasefire.
Washington announced that a cease-fire agreement “is already on the table”, has been approved by Israel and is expected to be signed by members of Hamas.
However, the parties involved have released little information on the progress recorded in the negotiations.
After the arrival of the Hamas delegation, a Palestinian official told Reuters that the agreement “has not yet been reached”.
From the side of Israelis neither has the participation of an Israeli delegation in the negotiations been officially confirmed.
A source briefed on the progress of the negotiations said Israel is likely to stay away from Cairo unless Hamas first presents a full list of hostages still alive.
According to a Palestinian source, Hamas has so far rejected the satisfaction of the above request of the Israelis, which it characterizes as premature.
