Gaza Strip authorities on Sunday called on the international community to increase humanitarian aid to protect two million Palestinian refugees in the territory as winter approaches.
The Government Media Office in the enclave launched an urgent appeal, noting that some two million people are displaced in the region as a result of the Israeli aggression.
He said that 100,000 of the 135,000 tents that house these people need immediate replacement because they are very worn out.
The tents “are made of wood, nylon and fabric, and have worn out in the heat of the sun and the weather conditions in the Gaza Strip,” he said.
The agency warned that the territory is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe due to the arrival of winter and the difficult weather conditions.
“As a result, two million people will be left without shelter in the winter,” he stressed.
The Office condemned the decision by the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to close border crossings, a measure that prevented the entry of some 250,000 tents.
Israel and its ally the United States are “fully responsible for these catastrophic conditions that our Palestinian people are experiencing,” he said.
We urge the world, and especially the Arab countries, to provide tents for the Gazans, he demanded.
He also called on the world to “break its silence” over the wave of crimes committed by the Armed Forces of the neighboring country.
