Libreville, March 15, 2024 (AGP) – The United Arab Emirates announced on Friday March 15 the arrival of the first ship carrying 200 tons of food and relief supplies to the Gaza Strip. The aid was delivered via a sea corridor launched from the port of Larnaca in Cyprus to Gaza, in collaboration between the United Arab Emirates, World Central Kitchen (WCK) and the Republic of Cyprus, it has been learned. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) highlighted the UAE’s efforts to mobilize efforts within the “Amalthea” maritime corridor to successfully deliver humanitarian aid to the northern Gaza Strip.
Through the said statement, the ministry praised the vital efforts of the leaders of Cyprus, World Central Kitchen and international partners to strengthen the humanitarian response to civilians in northern Gaza.
According to WAM,The ministry affirmed that the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip requires the adoption of a collective international approach to immediately mitigate the damage caused to innocent civilians, ensuring urgent, safe, unhindered and sustainable delivery. help.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that the maritime corridor is part of a sustained and dedicated effort aimed at increasing the flow of humanitarian aid and commercial goods through all possible routes.
As part of its unwavering commitment to the brotherly Palestinian people, and its efforts to implement humanitarian initiatives aimed at providing relief, the United Arab Emirates delivered 21,000 tonnes of emergency supplies, including food, water and medical items.
The country sent 213 flights, 8 airdrops, 946 trucks and two ships. The UAE also inaugurated a number of sustainable relief projects, and provided medical care to civilians in Gaza by establishing a field hospital in the south of the Gaza Strip, in addition to a floating hospital anchored in the Egyptian port of Al-Arish, according to the Emirates News Agency.
