The World Health Organization WHO has decided to hold an emergency meeting due to the sudden global outbreak of monkey pox. Experts will consider whether the alarm should be raised.
The WHO could declare a public health emergency of international concern, observers say. At the end of January 2020, the WHO issued such a warning for the coronavirus outbreak.
The WHO experts also discuss the spread of the virus, the possibilities of vaccination and the high proportion of infected men who have sex with men, British media report.
The WHO emphasizes that monkey pox is now emerging in countries where the disease is not normally prevalent. The virus is actually mainly found in parts of Africa, but infections have been reported in a growing number of European countries, the United States, Canada and Australia in a short time. For the time being, the organization speaks of eighty confirmed cases and fifty possible infections.

The government has asked the organization to inform the thousands of visitors about the infections. For example, they ask to remain vigilant, because the virus has an incubation period of up to 21 days. This year’s festival was from 4 to 9 May.
Anyone who has symptoms or a suspicion of infection must report to a doctor as soon as possible for an examination and quarantine until the result is known.
