Gawat, North Korea Cut Diplomatic Relations with Malaysia

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The shocking news came from North Korea (Korut). The country led by Kim Jong Un has cut diplomatic relations with Malaysia.

Pyongyang announced this Friday (19/3/2021). This was after the neighboring country extradited a North Korean citizen to the United States (US).

“On March 17, Malaysian authorities committed an unforgivable crime … by forcibly sending innocent (North Korean) citizens to the U.S.,” the statement was quoted as saying. AFP from the North Korean media, KCNA.

“The North Korean foreign ministry hereby announces the total severance of diplomatic relations with Malaysia.”

Malaysia is said to have carried out hostile actions against Pyongyang. It is also claimed that Indonesia’s neighbor is too submissive to US pressure.

There was no further comment from Malaysia yet.

The North Korean citizen who was extradited was named Mun Chol Myong. He lost in Malaysia’s high court on March 3 after an appeal against extradition to the US.

The FBI report said Mun was facing charges of money laundering. He, who has lived in Southeast Asia for years, was asked to be extradited to Washington after being arrested in 2019.

He is said to be leading a criminal group that violates UN and US sanctions. The group supplies prohibited goods to North Korea and launders funds through the company.

The report said this was related to Mun’s work in Singapore. Although they did not refer to the specific case of Mun, there have been many shipments of luxury goods from Singapore to North Korea, ranging from liquor to watches.
