135 new addresses have been added to the guide, accounting for a total of 1,375 names, some of which are increasing in score. “These are great results for a sector that is of course very difficult in times of corona, but which shows an incredible amount of resilience,” says Marc Declerck, CEO of Gault&Millau. “I am happy that -after the lockdown- the public has found their way to the tables again. According to some it was even a storm. It is good that the passion of the chefs finds an audience. Many have tried and performed take away, but gastronomy lovers bring them together, that’s what they do it for anyway.”
Chef of the Year is Thierry Theys (37). The man behind the fire of ‘Nuance’ in Duffel. No stranger, on the contrary, who has also been the owner of two stars in the Michelin guide for ten years, now he is also intensively lauded by Gault&Millau, after he was already the Young Chef of the Year in the guide in 2010: “I had nothing counted on or hoped for. And then such an appreciation is very pleasing. I think we received the prize because of the healthy evolution we have experienced in recent years,” says Theys (see video below).
