Gastronomic pilot is ‘turned on’ with thirty restaurants in Barranquillla

Although the stoves of many restaurants were not turned off during the quarantine in Barranquilla, from Thursday, August 20, they will ignite with more intensity, within the framework of the pilot plan to reactivate the gastronomic sector that starts in 30 establishments.

To advance in this reopening, which corresponds to concerted actions between the District and the Ministries of Health and the Interior, Mayor Jaime Pumarejo Heins carried out an inspection visit in two of the selected locations (Las Vegas and Caimán del Río), to learn about details of the biosecurity protocols that will be implemented.

“This is a necessary boost, we need to recover 150,000 jobs that have been degraded or lost in recent months and that is why we are working so that Barranquilla residents have health, but also have the possibility of earning a decent living,” said the district president .

Pumarejo also indicated that the reopening of this sector is planned as a gradual and safe process.

“If this pilot goes well, we will quickly open and in less than 45 days we hope that the entire gastronomic sector will be working in Barranquilla, as well as other sectors of our economy,” added the mayor.

Likewise, the district mayor indicated that the pilot plans are constituted in spaces to be able to “improve the experience” for users, complying with all current sanitary regulations, to avoid the spread of the virus.

Selection factors.

For the choice of restaurants, the district administration took into account the preparation of the protocol and the implementation of the biosecurity measures of the company and its clients, as well as other aspects: structure of the establishment, with terraces and spaces that allow circulation of the air, the control of the capacity and the adequate distance.

Similarly, the Mayor’s Office reviewed the existence of signage with biosafety information for customers and collaborators, implementation of digital devices for payment and menus, cleaning and disinfection equipment, control points and strategic location of bins for waste disposal, among others.

Ricardo Plata Sarabia, the district secretary for Economic Development, indicated: “We did the respective preliminary studies with the medical-scientific team of the Simón Bolívar University so that the restaurants could serve with all the rules.”

In turn, the executive president of the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce, Manuel Fernández Ariza, said that “this is an example of articulated and proactive work between companies, unions and the Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla to promote the reactivation of our economy.”
