Gasoline skyrocketing, Draghi thinks of a way out

The price of gasoline continues to rise and has exceeded 2 euros / liter: what is the solution proposed to the government for the summer

For the past few days, the national average price of self-service petrol has broken through the ceiling of 2 euros per liter. These prices had already been reached at the beginning of March, but at that time the cut in excise duties of 30 cents per liter, established by the government starting from March 22, was not yet in force. If we also excluded the tax discount, today we would even be at 2.31 euros per literthus breaking the 1976 record.

The increases in the price of crude oil on the market have effectively made government interventions useless and in some way we must run for cover to limit the damage. In fact, these days we are thinking about a ceiling on the price of fuel, at least as regards the summer months. The proposal is included in the amendments of Aid decree. As always, there are suspicions of speculation and many fear that international tensions could lead to further increases.

Petrol, how you want to remedy the increases

However, the extension of the cut in excise duties to 30 cents is not enough and Draghi must find a solution as soon as possible. This hypothesis of the fuel roof was launched by the Democratic Party, which proposes a Dpcm for 60 days. In this way, the costs for those who work and travel would be reduced, even if reaching a standard will not be easy. The text simply provides for the definition of “a maximum price for the sale of fuels” on the proposal of the Minister of Ecological Transaction.

Even the leader of the League, Matteo Salvinidefines himself as the proponent of the proposal: “I asked the Minister of Economy Daniele Franco to renew the petrol discount at least for the whole summer. Because if the war goes on for months, petrol risks reaching 3 euros per liter and for millions of Italians it would be a disaster “.

It should be noted that the problem of expensive fuels does not only concern Italy. Also in England the price of gasoline has skyrocketed. A full tank for British motorists costs 103 pounds, the equivalent of 125 euros.
