Gasoline price drops to eleven-year low in corona crisis

Due to the corona crisis, fuel prices in Germany fell sharply. According to an evaluation published by ADAC on Wednesday, a liter of Super E10 costs EUR 1,160 nationwide – that’s 2.1 cents less than in the previous week. Refueling has become cheaper for the ninth consecutive week nationwide. Gasoline is even cheaper than last time in 2009.

According to the ADAC, diesel fell by 1.8 cents to an average of EUR 1.078 per liter and is thus approaching the one-euro mark. According to ADAC, a high demand for heating oil still affects the diesel price, which is why the price difference to Super E10 is currently only a good 8 cents.

The declining fuel prices are related to the massive slump in crude oil prices, which even reached negative values at the beginning of the week. However, fuel prices are not only dependent on crude oil prices, taxation also plays a major role. According to ADAC, there are limits to a further drop in prices. Nevertheless, declining oil prices would have to be passed on to customers via falling petrol station prices, the association demanded.
