“We are working very actively to make sure that the gas transit agreement between Ukraine and Russia would be extended,” Olaf Scholz said during an interview.
According to the head of the German Ministry of Finance, the agreement is valid until 2024, but the parties are checking the possibility to extend it until 2034. Germany sees its responsibility to ensure transit through Ukraine in the future.
It should be noted that the situation around the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline threatens not only the Ukrainian economy, but also its security, since the pipeline system connects the Russian Federation and Germany bypassing our country.
