Gas transit – Russia does not want to start negotiations

“There is nothing, not even a hint, formal or unofficial negotiations (with Russia – ed.),” Vitrenko said.

According to him, Ukraine is discussing the continuation of gas transit after 2024 with the United States and Germany, who want it to be preserved. However, Russia does not want to start negotiations on this topic.

The head of Naftogaz noted that if the contract for gas transit through Ukraine is not extended, then the use of both Nord Stream gas pipelines, which go directly to Germany, will strengthen Russia’s control over the supply of blue fuel to Europe. This will make the EU more vulnerable to politically motivated supply disruptions and price spikes, he said.
