The study’s results show, among other things, that gas stoves and ovens have caused 12.7 percent of all asthma cases among American children.
Known facts
The study is not the first to point out the risks associated with using a gas stove, but the new figures show how extensive the risks are.
The results show that gas stoves and ovens have caused 650,000 children in the United States to suffer from asthma.
But it is not only Americans who are faced with the problem.
According to Wynne Armand, a physicist at Massachusetts General Hospital, nearly two million children are estimated to have developed asthma in 2019 after being exposed to nitrogen dioxideNO2, from above all gas stoves.
She explained this in the scientific journal Harvard Health Publishing in September last year.
Sanctions are a possible measure
Studies have previously documented the link between asthma and the use of gas stoves, but now one has startling meta-study further underlined the problem.
It has now been shown that children from homes with a gas stove are 42 percent more likely to develop symptoms of asthma than those who do not cook with gas.
In addition, the study shows that 24 percent of the children were at high risk of developing chronic asthma. This raises concerns among several consumer organizations.
“The danger has been hidden, but now all these products are being brought up for review. Products that are not safe could potentially be banned,” said industry consultant Richard Trumka Jr. to Bloomberg.
However, whether the debate about gas stoves will lead to changes in the law in the area remains to be seen.
