It is replenished when it already occurs, so every 20 minutes,” the salesman described at the gas station.

“Thanks to closed stores, we register increased sales, especially at our city stations, especially after supermarkets and on Sundays. The largest increases are in the sale of basic foodstuffs, cigarettes and alcohol,” said Shell spokesman Petr Šindler.

Due to demand, other chains have also expanded their range not only to include pastries, but also to include sausages or dairy products. However, retailers agree that even though cigarettes and alcohol are still available, sales are rising sharply due to these goods.

“Statistically, sales on Sunday replicate sales during public holidays. Customers mainly buy cigarettes, alcohol, beverages, newspapers, confectionery and the sale of ready-to-eat products,” said MOL spokeswoman Kateřina Matásková.

In addition to the usual assortment at gas stations, customers buy, for example, thermometers or try to return beer bottles. Gas stations have also been replaced by closed pubs or cafes in recent days. The shops are closed on Sundays from the beginning of November.
