At 19:15 on Thursday, the police reported that there has been a gas leak on the Hurtigruten, which is docked in Ålesund. All emergency services rushed to the scene.
– It is a bit unclear what this is. It is a substance that is supposed to be environmentally dangerous and liquid, said operations manager in the police Arild Reite immediately after the report came.
He said that the leak came from a 1000 liter tank.
Created safety zone
– A safety zone of 50 meters will be created on land, so that people do not get too close in the event of a release of the gas, said Reite.
He said that there should be no danger the passengers or the employees on board, and that an evacuation was therefore not initiated.
Just before cook 21, the fire service wrote that there should be no danger to either people or the environment.
Considered unharmed
Those who were in the hold where there was a leak are said to have ingested the substance, and were therefore checked by health personnel on the quayside.
– I vnot whether the people are injured and whether they need further follow-up by health personnel, said Reite, shortly after the message came.
Just after 8 pm, he says that the people who ingested the substance have been checked by health personnel, and that they have no symptoms.
– They are considered unharmed, he says.
Waiting for car
Nils Bjerknes at the 110 central says that they are waiting for a car to soak up what has leaked onto the tyre.
At 10.30 p.m., police operations manager Per-Åge Ferstad says the car is at the scene. He currently does not know when the work will be completed.
