Update 23.20: The leak must be sealed.
At 22.24, the 110 central in Oslo reported a methane leak at the VEAS treatment plant in Asker.
– The gas is of the methane type. There is a leak in a tank outside. We don’t know exactly how much has leaked out, but it has leaked out into the open air, says guard commander Rune Elstad to TV 2.
No damage has been reported as a result of the leak.
– There is no information about damage to people or the environment. Then we work to find out the circumstances on the spot and how this has occurred, says operations manager Rune Hekkelstrand of the Oslo police to TV 2.
The emergency services operate with a safety zone of 300 metres, which will be reduced when they have a better overview. About 900 cubic meters of methane leaked into the open air.
– The police have cordoned off the area while the fire service has blocked it off and will eventually restart the system, says operations manager Per-Ivar Iversen at the police.
The fire service was notified of the leak at 10.05 p.m.
According to its own website, the VEAS facility is Norway’s largest sewage treatment plant. Part of the cleaning process involves extracting biogas that can be used to produce electricity, heat and fuel.
#Asker. Bad city. The emergency services are on their way following reports of a major gas leak. The gas must be of the Methane type.
