Gas: here is a solution to prevent your bill from soaring

After an increase of 4.4% in June, regulated gas prices rose again in July. This time around, consumers will have to pay 10% more. Enough to cause an average surge of € 120 per year on household bills according to the UFC-Que Choisir. But this problem is not inevitable. Here are the keys to not suffering the full force of the increase in the price of gas.

How much does it cost to heat with gas?

Heating, hot water, cooking … gas can have many uses in a home. The UFC-Que Choisir estimates the annual bill of a family that heats itself with gas at 1,200 €, or the equivalent of a month’s salary for many French people!

For households that are equipped with a gas boiler, tariff increases are therefore very bad news, especially for the most modest, whose budget was already tight. With the latest regulated tariff increase of 10%, it is 10 € additional that must be paid each month, or 120 € per year.

The successive increases experienced by consumers are directly linked to the economic recovery of many countries. With the lifting of health restrictions and the improvement of the situation related to Covid-19, all sectors of activity are starting up again at full speed.

This is reflected in the surging demand for gas. And with it, the prices of this energy are soaring around the world. However, France is extremely dependent on international gas markets, 99% of France’s consumption being imported from abroad.

How to avoid regulated tariff increases

To avoid having to undergo price increases, it is not necessary to change the heating mode. There is a simple solution: move away from regulated price contracts for market offers. More than 70% of French people already prefer these financially advantageous formulas.

According to the observatory of the Energy Regulatory Commission, this small change can generate savings of up to 13% for French people who heat themselves with gas. Market offers will also completely replace regulated sales tariffs (TRV) for gas by July 2023.

All energy suppliers offer market offers with a blocked gas price for a period of up to 3 years. A certain gain in visibility to end the months more calmly.

To switch from TRVs to market offers, all you have to do is take out a new contract with another energy supplier or request the change from your current supplier. This modification does not generate any additional costs or duration of engagement. Households are thus free to change them at any time and to always benefit from the best prices for their gas consumption.
