Gas explosion in the rue Pierre Palliot in Dijon: the suicidal appeal trial opens in Chalon

The date of September 16, 2016 remains forever engraved in the memory of the residents of the building located at 15 rue Pierre-Palliot, right next to Dijon train station.

That day, the morning barely started when a violent explosion sounded at 9:15 a.m.
The two-story building, wedged in a backyard between two houses, is literally blown away.

“It was like a big explosion, I thought everything was going to collapse. I am completely traumatized, I was very, very scared,” said a young girl interviewed just after the accident. “If we had been in the parts behind it, we would have died because of the damage. It is terrifying,” added a neighbor.

A reminder of the facts

Considering the heaps of rubble piled up, the results are almost miraculous: about fifteen people are injured or shocked. One of them will be amputated.

At the origin of this drama, there is a disappointment in love. A resident of the building, Yves Naudé, had been rejected by a neighbor with whom he was in love. He then decides to commit suicide by opening two gas bottles. The 50-year-old was tried in June 2019 before the assizes of Côte-d’Or for “deliberate destruction by dangerous means having led to temporary work interruptions”. He had 15 years in prison.

But, he decided to appeal. This new trial opens before the Saône-et-Loire Assize Court in Chalon-sur-Saône on Monday June 8, 2020. It should last until Friday June 12.

The hearings will take place in a specific context, given the coronavirus epidemic. Visors and masks will be required during the debates.
