“Some of TSMC’s production lines in South Taiwan Science Park received certain gas from a supplier that was believed to be contaminated, but it was quickly replaced with another gas supply,” TSMC said on site, as quoted Tomsguide.com, Sunday (1/8/2021).
The company said it was carrying out quality control to ensure product quality was not affected. TSMC said that the contamination did not appear to have had a “significant impact on operations.”
The contamination was reportedly discovered late Thursday, just a day after the company had warned investors about potential supply problems. Because the ongoing chip shortage could affect everything from PS5 restocks to car production.

So far, Apple has managed to avoid the worst effects of a global chip shortage. And even while warning of potential problems along the way, CEO Tim Cook wanted to point out that supply constraints are mostly on “old nodes” rather than Apple’s own silicon.
