Actor Gary Sinise, actor in the movie “Forrest Gump”, where he played Lieutenant Dan Taylor, is in mourning after the death of his son McCanna Anthony, “Mac” Sinise, diagnosed in 2018 with a form of cancer called chordoma, with who fought hard, however died on January 5, as he announced on his social networks, where he spoke of the pain of the loss and the battle of his 33-year-old son.
“He fought a tough battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never stopped trying,” he explained about the disease that Mac suffered from, which originates in the spine and affects about 300 people in the United States each year.
Through a tribute, the American actor detailed the difficult times his family has been through since Mac’s diagnosis occurred a few months after his wife Moira Harris received a diagnosis of stage three breast cancer.
Fortunately, her husband managed to get rid of the disease and is in remission, however, her son’s illness made him increasingly incapacitated as time went by; Despite this, Mac never lost the will to live, he continued working at the Gary Sinise Foundation, a charity founded by his father that works with military personnel, veterans, first responders and his families.
Mac was also “an exceptional drummer” who played shows with his father Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band, Gary shared photographs of this, as well as special moments with his son, who studied composition, and participated in the album Resurrection & Revival, which premiered the same week he died.

According to the National Cancer Institute, chordoma is a slow-growing cancer found in tissue inside the spine. It forms anywhere in the spine and most often occurs near the tailbone (called a sacral tumor) or at the junction of the spine and the skull (called a clivus tumor).

Mac underwent five different spinal surgeries between 2018 and 2020 and was left paralyzed from the chest down due to the effects of the disease on his body; In the memorial that Gary Sinise, his father, prepared for him, he details the pain that the loss of his son causes him as a father.
“Like any family who experiences a loss like this, we are heartbroken and have handled it the best we can. As parents, it is very difficult to lose a child. My heart goes out to everyone who has suffered a similar loss and to anyone who has lost to a loved one. We have all experienced it in some way. Over the years, I have met so many families of our fallen heroes. It is heartbreaking, and it is very difficult,” it reads.

At the site where Gary says goodbye to his son, he details the fight that lasted five and a half years, and although he admits that he is hurt by Mac’s death, he celebrates that his son is no longer fighting, after having done so for so long.
“Our family’s fight against cancer lasted five and a half years and became more and more challenging as time went on. While our hearts ache to miss him, we are comforted knowing that Mac is no longer fighting, and we are inspired and the way he achieved it is moving,” he added.
