Gary Anderson convincingly reached the third round of the Darts World Cup in London on Saturday. The two-time world champion may now face Dirk van Duijvenbode, while Michael van Gerwen knows who his opponent is in the second round.
The 52-year-old Anderson, who won the world title in 2015 and 2016, impressed against Simon Whitlock. The Scot won 3-0. He finished it off against the Australian with a 116 finish.
Anderson is number 21 in the world rankings and seems to have his best years behind him, but he has made an excellent impression in recent months.
That cannot be said of Dirk van Duijvenbode, who is struggling with a shoulder injury. Van Duijvenbode has to deal with Boris Krcmar or Keegan Brown in the second round and if he succeeds, a cracker awaits him against Anderson in the third round.

Van Gerwen hits Barry
Van Gerwen will meet the Irishman Keane Barry in the second round, he now knows. The 21-year-old Barry defeated Reynaldo Rivera from the Philippines (3-1) in the first round on Saturday evening.
Danny Noppert also knows who his opponent will be in the second round. De Fries will meet Scott Williams, who defeated the Japanese Haruki Muramatsu 3-1.
Like Van Gerwen, Noppert will start the match as favorite. Noppert is the global number seven and the Englishman is 52nd.
