Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Head of the Integrated Service Center for Women and Children Empowerment (P2TP2A) Garut, West Java, Diah Kurniasari Gunawan said the victim sexual violence and molestation leaders of Islamic boarding schools in Bandung experienced trauma and quite heavy pressure.
In fact, said Diah, the dozens of female students must continue to undergo therapy and psychological assistance so that their condition is stable. Diah is also the wife of Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan.
“The P2TP2A Garut psychology team is doing psychological therapy until now the victims have started to be able to return to society,” Diah told CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (11/12).
Diah also said that when the case was first uncovered, all the parents of the victims were in shock so they had to be given understanding and assistance in order to accept it.
This case, he said, began to open in May 2021. At that time, P2TP2A Garut Regency received a report from a village head and parents of students regarding cases of alleged molestation against several children from his village who were educated at a boarding school in Bandung.
“Previously, the village head had reported the case to the West Java Regional Police,” he said.
At that time, Diah said, his party also directly coordinated with the West Java Regional Police, who also followed up on reports from village heads and residents who became parents of students. It is known that there were 11 female students from Garut who were victims. In fact, some of them already have children until some are pregnant.
Parents Don’t Know
Many of the parents of the students did not know about the problems that befell their children, so P2TP2A took the initiative to call the parents of the victims and tell them the problems that befell their children at the pesantren.
“At this time many parents are shocked and do not accept it,” he said.
After the case was investigated, the children from Garut were picked up from the boarding school by West Java Police investigators and taken to the Garut P2TP2A safe house. They said Diah was immediately met with their respective parents.
“On the other hand, the West Java Police investigation team has arrested the perpetrators,” he said.
For now, Diah ensures that her party will continue to focus on assisting the victims who have been successfully brought out of the pesantren.
Efforts to reintegrate victims into their environment continue to be carried out by approaching village government officials and community leaders until the victims are finally able to return to their homes.
Assistance efforts are still ongoing in the form of assisting victims in facing trials, to health assistance.
“Considering that there are victims who are still waiting for the birth process, after previously one victim has also given birth with the facilitation of P2TP2A Garut,” he said.
In addition to health assistance, P2TP2A also provides assistance so that victims who are still of school age can return to education and even go to college.
