Garut District Health Service and KPA Fun Run Commemorating World AIDS Day 2023

KILASGARUTNEWS.id|Fun Run enlivened the commemoration of World AIDS Day (HAS) 2023 which was held by the Garut District Health Service together with the Garut District Aids Management Commission (KPA) at the Garut Art Center Building, Wednesday (13/12/2023).

The importance of efforts to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS in the region, said the Deputy Regent of Garut, dr. Helmi Budiman, when opening the Fun Run event.

“The regional government (Pemkab) of Garut has focused on three pillars of handling HIV/AIDS with the slogan “Three Zero,” including, zero new infections, zero deaths due to HIV/AIDS, and zero discrimination towards an AIDS-free Indonesia by 2030,” he said.

Helmi emphasized the importance of strengthening faith, harmonizing families, and understanding the dangers of HIV/AIDS as crucial steps. So we campaign that this disease is not a sin, but a condition that requires treatment. In this context, the target is to reduce the death rate and prevent new cases.

“Therefore, our target is zero deaths because we have to undergo treatment, and secondly, there are no new cases,” he said.

In the same place, the Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division of the Garut Health Office, Asep Surachman, also said that this activity was part of a series of World AIDS Day Commemorations, including a Fun Run, trampoline exercise, and a workshop/talk show to provide insight into HIV/AIDS to high school students in Garut Regency.

Still, Asep explained, it is at these vulnerable ages that we must provide complete information about HIV/AIDS and efforts to prevent it, considering that the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Garut Regency is quite worrying, where last year the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Garut Regency was at 212 cases, and this year until last October 201 new HIV/AIDS cases were found, and 25 HIV/AIDS patients died,” explained Asep.

Therefore, several efforts have been made, including screening of vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, MSM (Men having sex with men) communication, transgender communities, free sex offender communities, correctional institutions (Lapas), correctional bodies (Bapas), detention centers. (Detention Center), and TB sufferers.

“We have set our target this year at 62,225. Yes, we have to pursue it to find out whether new ones have been discovered for these 60 thousand or not. “It turns out that 201 were found and most of them turned out to be those who had deviant sexual behavior, namely MSM,” he said.

“He hopes that next year Garut will see a decrease in HIV/AIDS cases and we will not find many more. We have to reduce it by using today’s methods, one of which is by campaigning, by 2030 we must eliminate HIV/AIDS in Garut,” he said.

The Garut Health Office is committed to screening vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, MSM, transgender people and prisoners. “This effort is being made to achieve the screening target of 62,225 people this year, with the hope of reducing HIV/AIDS cases in the future,” he added.
