Deputy Minister of SOEs II Kartika Wirjoatmodjo declare PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) will cut the number of flight routes from 237 flights in 2019 to 140 routes in 2022. This means that the number will be reduced by 97 routes.
“Garuda will greatly reduce the number of routes and aircraft, and will focus on super premium routes, where the routes are down from 237 routes to 140 routes,” said Tiko, his nickname during a meeting with Commission VI DPR, Tuesday (9/11).
In the future, most of the international routes will be closed, especially those that fall into the category of long trips, such as to Amsterdam, London, to Korea because of the lack of passengers. Domestic routes will also be selected.
“Indeed we’ve had a lot of complaints over the past month because flight Garuda is decreasing because many of its planes are being flown.grounded,” he explained.
In the future, continued Tiko, more and more airports will experience scarcity of Garuda flights considering the company will focus on routes that actually generate profits.
Tiko said the reduction in the number of routes was the impact of reducing the number of aircraft, from 142 aircraft to only 50-60 aircraft operating. This is also the impact of reducing the types of aircraft in the company from 13 types to 7 types.
“Usually good airlines may have 2-3 types of aircraft, now this is Garuda starting from the 777, 737, A320, A330, CRJ, ATR45, ATR75 series, all of them are available, so there are indeed many and this makes the complexity of managing cost so expensive,” he concluded.
