Garrett Wilson Impresses Aaron Rodgers and Draws Comparisons to Davante Adams as New York Jets Debut Nears

By Phillip Schmalz

Aaron Rodgers’ debut with the New York Jets is fast approaching. And the 39-year-old is already really convinced of one of his new team-mates. We’re talking about Garrett Wilson. The wide receiver is entering his second NFL season and appears to have impressed his new passer at the OTAs and early training sessions together.

So much so that Rodgers was tempted to compare the 22-year-old to Davante Adams. Speaking on the team’s website, he explained: “I love Davante and I saw him this summer. He’s still in a category all his own. But this Wilson reminds me of Adams in terms of his ability to get in and out of breaks and his quick twitch on the line of scrimmage.” Kudos to last year’s rookie!

He should be happy about Rodgers’ statements for a completely different reason. As Wilson has explained many times in the past, Adams was one of his favorite receivers and role models growing up. “I’m trying to take a lot of what he did well,” said the Jets number 17.

New York Jets: Wide receiver colleague Lazard also draws comparisons to Adams

Allen Lazard, Davante Adams’ ex-colleague at the Packers and now also in New York, takes a similar stance to Rodgers: “Garrett is incredible. I see a great resemblance to Davante. For me, Davante is the best in the league, for sure. But there are many things in which they are similar in terms of their quirks, their personality and their skills.”

What Wilson can do in the NFL, he hinted at last season. He was voted Offensive Rookie of the Year for 1,103 receiving yards and four touchdowns. If the chemistry between Wilson and quarterback legend Aaron Rodgers is actually right, Jets fans can look forward to even better numbers.
