Fourth in the Tokyo Olympics, Garrett Scantling continues to progress, at 28 years old. The American achieved a capital performance on Saturday with 8,867 points, which makes him the 7th best decathlete in history, the 3rd best American. Its performances are rather balanced: 10″68 (+0.9 m/s) over the 100 m, 7.68 m at the length, 16.12 m at the weight, 2.04 m at the height, 48″38 over 400 m, 13″59 (+1 m/s) over 110 m hurdles, 51.04 m in the discus, 5.15 m in the pole vault, 67.16 m in the javelin and 4’46″37 in the 1500 m.

College record for Garland
Scantling thus won the United States Combined Events Championships, held in Fayetteville (Arkansas), which served as a selection for the World Championships in Eugene (July 15-24). Behind him, University of Georgia student Kyle Garland also scored a big total with 8,720 points, his record, (including 10.63 in the 100m, 16.44 in the shot put and 2.16m in the Zack Ziemek completes the podium with 8,573 points, also a new personal best.

Anna Hall confirms her progress
In the heptathlon, Anna Hall is the only one to have reached the world minima. The Florida student, who is exploding at the highest level this season, took her record to 6,458 points. Hall, 21, broke four personal bests over the weekend (13″21 in the 100m hurdles, 1.76m in height, 12.51m in shot put, 23″14 in 200m, 6, 39 m at the length, 38.44 m in the javelin and 2’03″11 over 800 m). She is ahead of Ashtin Mahler (6,184 pts) and Michelle Atherley (6,154 pts), who did not pass the minima. Kendell Williams (who has a wild card for the Worlds) and Erica Bougard, regulars in major championships, did not complete the seven events.
