Garmin Venu 3 and Venu 3S: New Smartwatches with Advanced Sleep Tracking and More

Two years after the launch of the Venu 2 and 2s smartwatches, a year and a half after the Venu 2 Plus premiere, Garmin introduced a successor. While larger Garmin Venu 3 they will come in a size of 45 millimeters and will use 22mm straps, smaller Came 3S they will have a diameter of 41 mm and a band width of 18 mm.

The smaller Venu 2S will get five colors, the larger model two.
You can pay extra for a leather strap.

Sleep coach

Both watch models will have three mechanical buttons on the right edge. On the left, there is a visible grille under which the speaker is hidden, there is also a microphone, which can be used for hands-free calls or to control the voice assistant. We already know this from the previous generation, but now you can also listen to music this way.

The upper side was occupied by the touch screen AMOLED screen. For the smaller model, it increased from 1.1″ to 1.2″ in diameter, for the larger one from 1.3″ to 1.4″. On the underside, an optical sensor is capable of recording heart rate and blood oxygenation level (SpO2) throughout the day. The Garmin Elevate V5 sensor is also capable of EKG, but it is currently disabled, waiting for the device to be approved by the relevant authorities (which may take a very long time in practice, don’t buy Venu 3 for EKG).

Temperature and advanced sleep

A similar situation prevails around the measurement of body temperature. The watch has a thermometer, according to some sources it is in action during sleep, according to others not yet. We’ll see how it goes in practice. In any case, it is another metric that will improve the quality of the identification of the coming disease, in women, the monitoring of the menstrual cycle.

Fundamentally improved sleep measurement should be one of the trump cards of the novelty. A comprehensive view is new – it is no longer just a question of nighttime sleep, now the system will also record an afternoon nap, monitoring is more comprehensive, all day long. The analysis of sleep stages is supposed to be of better quality, physical activity and other metrics (including heart rate variability, VST) available to the system are also taken into account.

The sleep consultant will then recommend how to improve rest. Jetlag Advisor also goes in a similar direction, which will help when crossing multiple time zones.

…and many other novelties

The new environment brings elements we already know from the AMOLED models Forerunner 265 and 965, for example the font size can be changed. Venu is not primarily a sports line, but there have been improvements in this direction as well – for example, open water swimming has been added to the list of activities. However, advanced training features and fitness tracking are still missing. The separation of activities and applications is interesting, until now garmins mixed them together.

A preview of the new user interface. There is, of course, much more news than this article can contain, you can follow the details on the website.

Some speculations mentioned a magnetic connector, but the premiere did not confirm this, on the pumpkin there is a good old (not so) proprietary connector notorious from recent years. The slight shift is that there is USB-C on the other side of the cable.

As far as endurance is concerned, Garmin reports intergenerational extension from 11 to 14 days (for the larger model). Venu 3S can handle 10 days.

In terms of connectivity, there is of course Bluetooth, through which the watch is connected to the mobile phone, the Venu 3 also supports ANT+ for connection to a number of sports accessories and sensors. There is also Wi-Fi on board for faster data transfer, LTE is missing, which is still a rarity in the Garmin portfolio.

Prices and availability

I take it as authoritative Garmin’s Czech website, where the availability of individual variants ranges from 7 working days to 8 weeks. Prices are the same for both sizes: 11,990 CZKthe version with a leather strap will cost CZK 13,190.
