In the Lithuanian basketball league (Betsafe-LKL) another confrontation of outsiders took place, in which the team “Labas GAS” (0/15) from Prienė could not get the long-awaited first victory.
“Gargždai” (2/13) are coached at home by Povila Šakinis 74:71 (12:27, 27:15, 17:16, 18:13) beat “Labas GAS”.
The first match between the teams “Betsafe-LKL” ended with the victory of “Gargžda” 95:68.
Prienai’s team got off to a great start and, led by rookie Robert Keliačius, came up with 25:9. Giedrius Staniulis and Joshua Newkirk started to reduce the difference and prevented the “Labas GAS” attack from accelerating in the second half. After Jylan Washington’s double with a foul, the teams were separated by only 4 points (28:32), not to mention the fact that he himself soon nailed a long shot – 31:32. Although Darius Tarvydas tried to revive the guests’ attack (36:35), “Gargzhdai” was only slightly behind before the long break – 39:42.
After the break, both teams went together (47:47), only after a long shot by Karolis Giedraitis, “Labas GAS” got away more – 57:51. However, Aurim Urbonas’ triple allowed “Gargždas” to be positive before the decisive quarter – 56:58.
Giedrius Staniulis showed the leadership and “Gargždus” went ahead (64:59), it seemed that there was still one step to victory, although Tauras Jogėla still warmed up the atmosphere – 71:74. There was a minute and a half to go, neither team’s shots were on goal and Kyan Anderson didn’t steal extra time.
As soon as he arrived at “Labas GAS”, R. Keliačius fitted in perfectly: he scored 11 points and 8 rebounds in 16 minutes, coming close to a double-double. He was the most efficient (19 nb) of the club. Meanwhile, Tauras Jogėla (13 points) played her most productive match so far at Prienisk.
