Gargždai – festival-seminar “The violin is my friend”

The festival of string players of Žemaitija region music and art schools has existed for more than twenty years.
The goal of violin teacher Liucija Gadeiktė, the creator of the festival-seminar, was to bring together small, regional-type music and art schools, so that string instrument teachers working there would have the opportunity to perform concert activities with their students, and could share their achievements in both academic and methodological fields. As you know, the advantage of larger cities is a larger contingent of students, and concert activities are much wider and more intense.
District schools live a much quieter life. Therefore, the festival that started, and later the methodological activities in it, received a lot of support from the string players of smaller schools in the Žemaitija region. The festival-seminar “Violin – my friend” has become an annual, traditional one, traveling in a circle through the music and art schools of Palanga, Kretinga, Skuoda, Šilutė, Priekulė, Plungė, Gargžda, Mažeikiai, Rietava, giving students the opportunity to express themselves during a concert, to play in a joint orchestra , for teachers to share their experience, problems, expectations, plans, monitor the level of education quality.
This XXIII festival came to Gargždis this year.
We will start the festival with the piece “Barbecue for four violins” created by the jazz pianist and music creator Mariaus Sūdius of the Gargžda Music School, which will be performed by our school’s pedagogues Austėja Botyriūtė, Gabrielė Brazdeikytė, Vladislava Stalmokienė and Aleksandras Titovas.
In the festival concert, you will hear works performed by soloists, duets, trios, quartets and ensembles. And in the final, you will hear the song “Do-re-mi” from the movie “Sounds of Music” performed by all the festival participants.
The festival will take place April 19 at 5 p.m. in the hall of the Gargžda Music School. Let’s all celebrate this holiday together. We kindly invite you. We will wait for you.
