Gargash criticizes the American “veto” against an Emirati ceasefire decision in Gaza

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Anwar Gargash, advisor to the UAE president, criticized on Saturday the United States’ use of its veto in the UN Security Council against the draft resolution submitted by the UAE for a ceasefire in Gaza, amid interaction.

Gargash said in a post on his official account on the “X” platform, previously Twitter: “Using the right of veto in the Security Council against the resolution presented by the UAE to cease fire in Gaza, wasted an opportunity to stop the bleeding of human casualties, and cast a negative shadow over the ability of the international community to protect… civilians during armed conflicts.

Anwar Gargash added: “The world today is in dire need of unifying its moral standards and aligning itself with humanity.”

Anwar Gargash’s post sparked interaction among users on the “X” platform, and the most prominent responses were as follows:

On Friday, the United States used its veto during a vote in the UN Security Council against a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, amid growing concern about the number of civilian deaths there.

Thirteen countries in the Security Council voted in favor of the draft resolution, the United States used its veto and the United Kingdom abstained from voting.

The draft resolution, submitted by the UAE, called for an “immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds,” as well as the “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages,” and “ensuring the access of humanitarian aid.”

At least 97 other countries joined this effort and co-sponsored the draft resolution drafted by the UAE.
