“To be honest, there is no job in world football that could inspire fear after the experience gained here. It will already be difficult to get a job that is associated with higher pressure and in which there are more difficult things.
I was 35 when I became a manager in the Premier League. We finished 12th and 13th, and I didn’t know anything then that I know now. Everyone remembers Middlesbrough: “Oh, Middlesbrough went out with him.” Well, in the third year we did get relegated, but I have three years of experience coaching in the Premier League. Without a doubt, the first season was my best achievement. I went from player captain to head coach of a multi-million dollar business in the toughest league in the world and we finished pretty well considering our budget.
I feel confident in my current role. I am confident in myself, no matter what happens in the future. Of course, I won’t be here for 20-30 years. I don’t know what will happen in the future. I’m very calm about this.
I remember talking to Jose when he was at Manchester United and he said: “You know, when you leave this job, you will be capable of anything.” I thought it was probably true, but seven years later I feel it’s definitely true,” Southgate was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
