During an interview, Gareth Bale returned to his time at Real Madrid.
A player who scores with his top speed, his will to win or his ability to score goals as important as they are exceptional, as was the case in the 2014 King’s Cup final and the 2018 Champions League, Gareth Bale will have scored the spirits during his time at Real Madrid. Signed for 100 million euros, making him the most expensive player in history at the time, the Welshman established himself as a legend of the Merengues and of course a member of the famous BBC alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. After a few freewheeling last seasons, the 33-year-old decided to retire in January after a short stint at Los Angeles FC.
Bale opens up on his Madrid connections
In an interview given to Times, the former winger spoke about his time in the Spanish capital and his relationship with his teammates. At the same time, he denied the rumors around certain tensions with them, in particular Cristiano Ronaldo. “I had no doubts when I signed for Real Madrid, I made the right decision. I wanted to play for Real Madrid and there were incredible moments. But there were also difficult moments when you very lonely feeling (…) Cristiano and Benzema were one of the main reasons why I joined Madrid, to play with those two and the others behind them like Modric, (Xabi) Alonso then Toni ( Kroos), Real Madrid players were all good. I know people talk about everything and nothing about my relationship with Ronaldo, but I never had any problem with anyone. Even in difficult times , he was good in the locker room. Honestly, I really enjoyed my time there.”explained the former Madrid player.
In total, the Welsh international has played 258 matches for Los Blancos, enough time for him to score 106 goals and win a whopping 19 trophies, including 5 Champions Leagues. A well deserved retirement.
