Welsh footballer Gareth Bale has announced his retirement from club and international football, effectively ending his career.
“After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from club and international football,” Bale wrote on his social media account.
“I feel very lucky to have fulfilled my dream of playing the sport that I love. It has truly given me some of the best moments of my life,” he added.
Bale has led his country to the European Cup finals twice in 2016, for the first time in their history, and reached the semi-finals with him, then 2021, and at the 2022 Qatar World Cup for the first time since 1958, and he also won the European Champions League five times for Real Madrid in his nine years, with him from 2013 to 2022.
