Garelov at 80? Is it not fake news (Video)

Thank you, teacher, for everything you have done for us, said the vice president and presented the journalist with a plaque for outstanding contribution

Ivan Garelov opened his celebration with real news – the first edition of his book is sold out

Garelov at 80? Isn’t it fake news? With this joke, Vice President Iliana Yotova congratulated the journalist, from whom she learned the profession, and wished: God grant that everyone has such energy!

As a sign of appreciation and for his outstanding contribution to Bulgarian journalism, she presented him with a plaque from the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

And he welcomed his birthday guests yesterday with news – the first print run of his book “Rock and Roll, Espionage and… Last Waltz” is sold out. Mr. Panorama combined his celebration with the presentation of his new book, published by “Trud” publishing house.

“It’s an unusual title, but you’re a journalist and you know how to immediately grab the attention of readers,” Yotova said. He also gave an example by quoting his words in an interview with “24 Chasa” how his book is arranged like a news broadcast. She herself, a journalist from BNT’s “Around the World and Our House”, explained how the most important thing is said in the first 5 minutes. Garelov also does it in his book with the very first sentence – “I don’t feel part of a lost generation”. “You have no reason to feel that way, those who claim that Bulgarians are a lost generation have even less reason,” Yotova said.

And he recalled those 21 years in which he was the host of “Panorama” – at first broadcast on Saturdays, then on Fridays, and parents told their children: “Quiet, let’s hear Garelov”. He also recalled the journalist’s interviews, valuable because in them he managed to show the person behind the post. “Very few of us can do that. Thank you, teacher, for teaching me this type of journalism, thank you for everything you have done for us and for continuing to give us advice,” Yotova said.

To continue to point to either the corner or the glory – that’s what the vice president wished him, after telling how the two continue to talk on the phone to this day. In their conversations, he tells her, “My girl, you’re not on the right track” or “That’s how it’s done.” He never spared her anything – neither the mistakes, nor the praises.

“Write your biography – a lesson for our profession,” asked Venelina Gocheva, director of “Trud” publishing house and publisher of “24 Chasa” magazine. With respect, she pointed out the great meaning in his professional career. He is a man of the cause – at the time together with Solomon Passy and “24 Chasa” they invited Pope John Paul II to Bulgaria and he really came, although no one believed in the success of the campaign. And he is the man who turned “Panorama” into a show that is still the place to hear different opinions – something that has remained too scarce.

The dream team – people who left a mark on his life, gathered for his 80th birthday the legend of “Panorama” and television journalism in Bulgaria, Ivan Garelov.

Who were Garelov’s guests, see in the video.
