Since Monday, a convict who was to serve two years in prison is on the run: he faked a suicide attempt at the police station in Nîmes to be interned and to escape. He is one of the most wanted escapees currently by the regional police and gendarmerie serviceswith distribution of his photo and his description at the borders.
On Sunday, the national police of Nîmes found the trace of an individual targeted by several warrants to purge two years in prisonafter a conviction by default, ie in his absence.
Arrested and taken into custody, he swallowed medicinewhich led to his transfer to the CHU Carémeau in Nîmes, where a doctor decided to have him hospitalized in psychiatric environment. On Monday, the suspect was therefore entrusted to a unit of the Mas Careiron specialized hospital, in Uzès, in the Gard. He will only stay there for a few hours, the time to thwart the surveillance of the staff and to escape, neither seen nor known.
Was he able to escape on foot? Did an accomplice come to wait for him near Mas Careiron? Mystery. When his disappearance was noted, searches carried out by the gendarmerie in the area were in vain.
Since then, it has not been spotted and known drop points have been monitored, to no avail. The police, the magistrates of the Nîmes prosecutor’s office and the doctors discovered that the fugitive had faked a suicide attempt to play “the girl of the air”. As a result, he is again the subject of a national wanted notice.
