On the island of Petite Terre, the second in the archipelago, a detachment of thirty-five people, including thirteen from the Gard, has been on site since February 24.
Due to the health situation linked in particular to the Covid, the Escrim (Element of rapid civil security for medical intervention) was sent to Mayotte. The detachment is made up of 35 people including thirteen Gard firefighters. It is also Lieutenant-Colonel Michel Cherbetian, of Sdis 30, who assumes the role of head of mission.
Leaving the mainland on the evening of February 23 and arriving on the spot on the morning of the 24th, the emergency services, in barely two days, unloaded 30 tons of equipment to equip and convert into a hospital a building built a few years ago but desperately empty since. . It is located in the town of Pamandzi, on the island of Petite Terre, the second largest in the archipelago where, until now, only an old dispensary existed. “We were able to quickly open an emergency department the size of Alès,” said the head of mission.
Mayotte is in total containment for three more weeks. The incidence rate, which was 900 per 100,000 inhabitants, all of whom were almost infected with the Brazilian or South African variant, rose to 500.
The team on site will be relieved on March 11. The new contingent which will arrive for two weeks will be made up of forty people. There will still be Gardois firefighters including the doctor Colonel Philippe Agopian who will be the new head of mission.
