More than half a century after its publication, One hundred years of loneliness, from Gabriel Garcia Marquez, remains one of the favorites of Mexican readers. According to the most recent Nielsen report, the Colombian Nobel Prize novel was the best-selling book during the first four months of 2021 in the Fiction category.
The second and third place belong to two figures of contemporary Mexican literature: Guillermo Arriaga (Save the fire) Y Fernanda melchor (Paradise), respectively.
In the Non-fiction category, the podium is made up of The negotiator, of the entrepreneur and investor Arturo Elías Ayub, The subtle art of giving a fuck, from the American Mark Manson, and Doubts are given away, from the duet of podcasters Flights Sahagun Y Ashley Frangie.
After a difficult year for the publishing industry due to the health emergency, the gradual reopening of bookstores meant a respite, especially for independent publishers, which have weathered the crisis thanks to the support of their readers and the opening of digital channels selling. However, the labels belonging to the large groups (Planeta and Penguin Random House) are still monopolizing the list of bestsellers.
