New York.- The wife of the former Secretary of Public Security of Mexico, Genaro García Luna, Linda Cristina Pereyratestified today on behalf of her husband in a New York court where he is being prosecuted for drug trafficking and for receiving bribes from Sinaloa cartel.
Summoned by the defense, Pereyra justified the family’s income and properties, presented by the Prosecutor’s Office as a product of the alleged bribes paid by the drug traffickers to her husband, as the natural progress of the family fortune thanks to her husband’s promotion and the benefits obtained by buying and selling properties.

Pereyra insisted that the different homes and businesses that were being acquired and then sold, such as a stationery store or a children’s party supplies store, were bought thanks to the application for mortgages and loans.
For these purchases, according to Pereyra, they also benefited from bonuses received by García Luna, as well as from the money he received at the end of his duties as director of the Federal Investigation Agency in 2006, for which he received 2.7 million pesos.

According to Pereyra, one of the reasons why they acquired so many properties was because the media were after them, and it was not safe for them to stay. He alleged the same reason to justify why, after 2007, they stopped publishing their financial statements.

He also has among his “hobbies” collecting motorcycles, she said.
Pereyra has attended the hearings every day to support García Luna since the start of the process, more than three weeks ago, and today she has come with her daughter Luna.
