Authorities from the capital’s government confirmed that among these threats are several that were made by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), although they did not detail how many, or by what route, they sent them.

Harfuch himself attributed the attack to the CJNG led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes aka El Mencho from Michoacán.

“This morning we were cowardly attacked by the CJNG, two colleagues and friends of mine lost my life, I have three bullet wounds and several shards. Our Nation must continue to confront the cowardly organized crime. We will continue working, ”said Harfuch, three hours after the attack, through his Twitter account.

The consulted authorities observed that the attack occurred almost 24 hours after federal and Mexico City authorities released a criminal radiograph in the capital and the metropolitan area, where the presence of six organized crime groups in the the capital, among which the Sinaloa Cartel was left out.

The Secretary of National Defense, Luis Crescencia Sandoval, warned that the organizations with a presence in the metropolitan area are the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), Guerrero Unidos, Los Caballeros Templarios and the Familia Michoacana; as well as two groups that operate in the capital of which he did not give a name.

“One thing is striking, that the attack occurs after the report that was given in the morning on Thursday, although there were already threats for the actions against this group,” said the sources consulted.

According to reports from the capital authorities, the CJNG has a presence in the Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Cuajimalpa, Cuauhtémoc, Gustavo A. Mader, Iztapalapa and Tláhuac mayoralties.

This criminal organization was created in Jalisco and is considered by the authorities of the United States as the most powerful and wealthy group of drug traffickers in Mexico and the world, led by ‘Los Cuinis’.

In Mexico City it has been operating for more than five years, they first occupied the capital as a financial center. Currently they seek to settle in the capital of the country as an operational center.

On February 12, 2019, the CJNG released a video announcing his arrival at the Gustavo A. Madero mayor’s office and on March 16 of this year they made a similar one for the Iztapalapa mayor’s office.

The CJNG maintains an open dispute with the Unión Tepito cartel, for this reason it joined, among other organizations, with the Anti Unión Tepito cartel. Although the authorities in the capital have made some relevant captures of these organizations, the group continues to operate and has gradually expanded its presence in the capital.

On May 29, 2019, Venustiano Carranza Aldo Jesús Azcona Cortés, ‘El Enano’ and / or ‘El Chucky’, who was identified as head of the CJNG Plaza in Mexico City, was detained at the mayoralty.

Almost 10 months later, Carlos Fernando Huerta Núñez, ‘El Viejon’, who had supplied ‘El Enano’ and / or ‘El Chucky’, was arrested.

A third relevant arrest made by the capital authorities was that of María del Carmen Albarrán García, ‘Cecy Albarran’, which occurred on April 10. The woman arrived in the capital to take over the plaza for the CJNG and some municipalities in the eastern part of the State of Mexico.

‘Cecy Albarran’ also operated the group’s finances in the area and its main mission was to combat the La Tepito Union cartel, considered the CJNG’s main barrier to seizing the capital’s plaza, considered the “jewel in the crown ”For criminal groups.
