Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj by three men posing as journalists. Ashraf had previously warned he would be killed within two weeks.

Former gangster and politician Atiq Ahmad’s brother, Ashraf, was killed alongside his sibling at the weekend. Ashraf had warned the press earlier in the month that he expected to be killed within two weeks, with a senior official responsible. The brothers were shot when three men posing as journalists opened fire on them while they were being escorted to a medical college in Prayagraj for a check-up by police. Atiq was being moved from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria prison to Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail.
