The candidate for the Gran Alianza Por la Unidad Nacional (GANA) for the mayor of San Salvador Este, Sorayda Figueroa, denounced this day before the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) damages to her electoral propaganda in the territories that will make up said municipality. The person responsible would allegedly be the mayor’s office of Ilopango chaired by Nuevas Ideas according to videos circulating on social networks.
San Salvador Este will be made up of Soyapango, Ilopango, San Martín and Tonacatepeque after the municipal restructuring endorsed by Nuevas Ideas last year. The propaganda for municipal councils began on February 5.
The Electoral Code establishes that “electoral propaganda constitutes a right of duly registered political parties or coalitions (…), and can be done by all legal means of dissemination without more limitations than those established by the Laws of the matter, morality and good manners”.
“They are taking it away, ruining it, breaking it, they are putting it in black bags in broad daylight with national (vehicle) plates. That is an act of desperation that is only seen as wanting to violate our rights, but the voice of the population of San Salvador Este is not going to be silenced,” commented Sorayda Figueroa, who is the only woman to compete for this municipality.
He added that they have had approximately 15 days of placing electoral propaganda, which “at midnight”, other people have been in charge of removing them, specifically in the areas of Soyapango and Ilopango; The alleged person responsible would be the mayor of Ilopango, chaired by José Chicas from Nuevas Ideas who seeks to be mayor of San Salvador Este.
Last Tuesday, the mayoral candidate for the Democratic Change party, Hernán Carrasco, also denounced, through social networks, the destruction of his propaganda.
