Peter Molyneux is a true legend in the gaming industry – and now he seems to have decided to return to doing what he does best, “God simulators”.

During the Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live, Peter Molyneux appeared on stage, having recently decided to return to creating games. After a short adventure with mobile games, as he himself said, he asked himself “what the hell am I doing?” and took on a new “big” project, which is to appear on PC. Masters of Albion is Molyneux’s return to his roots and creating “god simulator” games, but with a few surprises.
Peter Molyneux is an English video game creator, one of the longest-running in the industry. He is famous for titles such as Populous, Dungeon Keeper and Black & White, as well as Theme Park and the Fable series. Most of his games share a common theme – the ability to incarnate a divine being who is responsible for the existence of some “community” – whether followers of a religion we spread or the manager of a dungeon full of creatures from nightmares. Players will find many of these elements in the recently announced Masters of Albion.
During a short presentation of gameplay fragments, players could see the well-known severed hand, or cursor hovering over a small, medieval village. According to Molyneux, the player will be able to take care of a whole lot of details of his small community – including what its members eat. As he himself admitted, even rats will be food for our “charges”.

Of course, taking care of resources is one thing, but defending the village from potential attackers – for example, various monsters – will be equally important. At this point, the player will be able to decide whether he wants to take on the role of one of the villagers and take matters into his own hands, or whether he will watch the situation develop from above and only occasionally support his people with divine intervention. Of course, during the fight, it will be possible to freely switch between these two points of view. During the presentation, we could see how the daredevil controlled by Molyneux took a powerful beating, which meant that the entire battle plan had to be devised from scratch, and above all, focus on properly training the villagers to fight and defend the village.
The game Masters of Albion is being developed by a new studio, 22cans, founded by Molyneux. It is currently available to wishlist on Steam, but it is not yet known when it will appear on the market.
