Gameplay Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time: We look back at the different ways of playing

SCRIPT

Hello everyone, it’s k-miye and today I wanted to introduce you to the gameplay of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time in more detail. And more precisely the quantum masks and the different ways of playing depending on whether you play Crash Bandicoot or Neo Cortex. Let’s go !

Let’s start with one of the three levels available in the demo we played: Snow Way Out. From the start you cross the path of Kupuna-Wa, the mask of time. Once put on, just press the triangle or R2 button to trigger the power of time. Time then passes in slow motion for a few seconds. This gives us time to take advantage of some mechanisms, here the boxes that appear thanks to the exclamation point box. Likewise here, it leaves time to reveal a platform to continue the progression of the level. It is also very practical to slow down the fall of platforms. Here, we will try to jump on ice peaks thanks to the quantum mask. Can’t move forward if you don’t have the mask. It is also a way to escape from enemies as you can see.

Let’s move on to the mask of matter, called Lani-Loli. This one is in the Dino Dash level which plunges us into prehistory. Again, it is Crash that we are controlling. This Lani-Loli mask has the power to transform matter. By pressing triangle or R2, you make crates appear and disappear, but also obstacles. It’s as simple as that. By sliding on the liana, it requires good coordination. Otherwise, you won’t be surprised by Crash’s moves as he still enjoys the usual double jumps, drumstick jump, slide and tornado.

Now let’s take a look at our longtime nemesis, Neo Cortex. He also finds himself in the Snow Way Out level but he starts at another place, it’s a different timeline. The levels adapt to the abilities of the characters. Neo Cortex can use his laser gun to transform enemies into a platform. Unlike Crash, he doesn’t have the double jump, but pulling it twice means a trampoline appears. And it is very practical. The other skill of the mad scientist is the dash. This allows him to switch from one platform to another easily. Getting started is quick. It’s fluid and the level design couldn’t be clearer: we know what we have to do.

I remind you that our preview as well as the video preview are online on jeuxvideo.com. I let you enjoy this chase, the T-Rex on your tail. See you soon !
