New York/London (dpa) – A few weeks after announcing her divorce, British actress Sophie Turner (27, “Game of Thrones”) has filed a lawsuit against US singer Joe Jonas (34, “Sucker”) to return their two children asked.
The daughters born in 2020 and 2022 are being unlawfully detained in New York, according to the court document that was available to the German Press Agency. “The father is in possession of the children’s passports,” it says. “He refuses to return the mother’s passports and he refuses to send the children home to England with the mother.”
Speaker: “Unfortunate difference of opinion”
A spokesman for the father announced on Thursday that, after several conversations and with Turner’s knowledge, Jonas had initiated the divorce proceedings in the US state of Florida and that the court there had already ordered more than two weeks ago that the parents were not allowed to move with their children.
It was also said that Joe and Sophie had a “friendly meeting” in New York on Sunday and, according to the singer’s description, agreed to act amicably as parents. This is now an “unfortunate legal disagreement” about an ending marriage.
Jonas strives for his children to be raised together by mother and father in the USA and England. The children were born in the United States and mostly lived there, according to the statement, which was available to the German Press Agency.
Celebrity divorce
Turner and Jonas announced their divorce plans around two weeks ago and described it as a “mutual decision”. In the court document, however, Turner writes that she learned “from the media” that Jonas had filed for divorce.
Jonas and Turner got engaged in 2017 and then tied the knot twice in 2019 – in May in Las Vegas and in July in France.
