The squid game and the newly released action comedy Red Notice They are among the main premieres of the new official list of the most viewed of Netflix.
Yesterday (November 16), the streaming giant launched its new website, which registers its most viewed content in a new metric called “hours viewed.” The new website allows users to toggle between the weekly Global Top 10 lists for movies and series, with one category in English and another in other languages for each format. In addition, users can view the top 10 lists by country.
According to the website, Squid Game has reigned at number one in the non-English television category since its opening week in September, for a total of nine weeks at the top at the time of writing. Other K drama series on the list are The King’s Affection, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, and My Name.
Meanwhile, Narcos: Mexico has topped the list in the English television category, with League Of Legends’ newly released animated series Arcane coming in second. The third season of You, directed by Penn Badgley, completes the Top 3.
Also, the action comedy movie Red Notice, released on November 5, has achieved first place for the week of November 8 in the category of films in English. The newly released film, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, received three critical stars from NME’s Paul Bradshaw.
“Figuring out the best way to measure streaming success is difficult, and there is no perfect metric,” Netflix Vice President Pablo Pérez De Rosso said, according to Time. “After looking at the different options, we believe that engagement measured by hours viewed is a strong indicator of a title’s popularity, as well as overall member satisfaction, which is important for retention in subscription services.”
In other Squid Game news, its creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that the series’ second season is on the way. “There has been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like we are left with no choice,” he said.
Meanwhile, Riot Games has added Arcane-themed content to all of its games, including League Of Legends, Valorant, Wild Rift, and others, to celebrate the launch of the series.
