The Resident Evil series, with its terrifying atmosphere and solid action, cannot be missed when talking about games featuring zombies. The Resident Evil series, which has also become one of Capcom’s representative titles, has exceeded 100 million cumulative sales as of this year, and thanks to this reputation, many people look forward to each new release. And on March 24th, the 4th episode, which is considered one of the masterpieces of the series, will return with a remake. It is the first release in about 3 years after the 3rd remake, adding dynamics to the advanced graphics with enhanced knife action.

Improved graphics enough to make you wonder if it’s the same game

Resident Evil RE: 4, like the original, deals with the story of pagans in a Spanish village. The battle is centered on the villagers infected by the parasite called ‘Plaga’, and the main focus is on rescuing the kidnapped president’s daughter and uncovering the cult’s plot. Players become Leon, a direct agent of the President, and experience the unique battles of the 4 films, including knife action.

The part where you can feel the time difference of 18 years from the original released in 2005 is the graphics. Rather than the bright feeling of the original, a dark and somber atmosphere was laid throughout the game, and effects such as light sources and contrast were more detailed. In addition, the texture of Leon’s leather clothes and wavy hair were expressed realistically.

Not only did the graphics change, but the directing and cutscenes were also enriched. In the previous work, the direction where only the face appeared when talking with Operator Honeygun was changed to show each scene, and the motions such as weapon use and grabbing became natural. The so-called ‘bread envelope’, which was added to the scene where Dr. Salvador appeared, drew admiration from fans.

Realism was also added to the interaction. The motion when breaking objects such as boxes or house windows, as well as the fragmented debris, are described in detail, and the changed part allows interaction without aiming a knife or weapon, enhancing immersion and convenience.

The combat system is as advanced as the graphics

The part to pay attention to in Resident Evil RE: 4 combat is compressed into knife action. If you use it as it is, you can swing it, if you aim it, you can stab it, and as mentioned earlier, you can use it without aiming it. Thanks to these changes, the trial version distributed before release was praised for being able to taste a completely different sense of speed from the original.

Here, the addition of a parrying system using knives marks the climax. Through parrying, you can defend against short-range attacks from tentacles or infected people or long-range attacks such as arrows, and its utilization varies depending on the control. It is impossible to overdo it because it has durability, but if you support your skills, you can enjoy more dynamic battles using it.

Weapon replacement and loading, which many users complained about in the original game, have also been improved. Up to 8 weapons can be replaced as the battle progresses, and the reloading that had to be done while aiming has changed to be able to press a button. In addition, the part of combining or purchasing ammunition was added, reducing the meaningless time consumption when wasting ammunition.

The sitting and assassination additions are also indispensable. The sitting function in Resident Evil 7 or Village enabled more diverse play patterns by passing through narrow places or moving without being noticed by enemies. So, there is room for this to be useful in this title as well. It is also possible to kill the enemy instantly by grabbing the back of the enemy and piercing the neck with a knife through an assassination linked to sitting here.

Of course, not only the player but also the enemies became stronger. Compared to the original, AI has improved and the number of objects has increased, boasting a formidable level of difficulty. In fact, there are many users who have died several times despite the fact that the part released in the trial version is the early part of the game. Considering this point, the development team has created a difficulty adjustment option, so if you feel difficult, adjusting the difficulty can be a good option.

Resident Evil RE: 4, which will be officially released on March 24, can be played on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and supports Korean.
