Game Designer Defends Bethesda’s Starfield Against Cyberpunk 2077 Comparisons

While many gamers happily enjoyed the far reaches of space and dystopian futures in Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077 respectively, some drew comparisons between the two RPGs, preferring CD Projekt Red’s game due to its lack of a loading screen. Improved facial animations and more.

However, Cyberpunk 2077 senior quest designer Patrick K. Mills has had enough of the comparisons and took to Twitter/X to defend Bethesda’s work. In a series of posts and replies, he took a stance reminding gamers that different studios accomplish different things, and that’s fine.

“They’re doing what they’re known for and are very good at,”Mills said, speaking of Bethesda.“Again, you can criticize these elements, but there are some design constraints they have to keep in mind that the Peanuts Gallery is mostly unaware of.

“I like the stars very much,”Mills said in another article: “So I won’t get into the core criticism here, but I will say that the way they handle the movie with 2077 depends less on the engine than on the tooling and design. Related but not the same.

Do you think it’s fair to compare Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077?
