Club watcher Mike Verweij sees that a ‘very showy game’ is going on around the succession of Marc Overmars at Ajax† The name of Luis Campos is mentioned regularly, but Verweij states that the technical director has not done a good job at his old clubs.
Campos was previously active as technical director at AS Monaco and Lille OSC. It recently emerged that the Portuguese is interested in a position at Ajax, which is without director of player affairs after Marc Overmars left. “I find it tiring that that name is mentioned so often,” Verweij says in the football podcast of De Telegraaf† “The people within Ajax think so too.”
“There is a very showy game going on,” continues the Ajax watcher. “A number of people in Dutch football are pushing him forward. Apparently someone has an interest in that.”
Campos is regularly praised for his work at Lille and Monaco, but according to Verweij that is not right. “He left those clubs behind with a large debt burden. He was not employed there either, but did it all from his own BV. I see that a fellow journalist mentions his name, but I do not let myself be fooled. strain.”
Clarence Seedorf was put forward a number of times at De Telegraaf to fill the Ajax vacancy. However, Verweij does not think that the former midfielder should necessarily become the new Ajax director. “That is someone who, even more than Overmars, knows the youth academy of Ajax. I would prefer a type Seedorf. It does not necessarily have to be Seedorf, but someone who has ties with Ajax.”
Campos did not want to respond to VoetbalPrimeur about the rumors about a possible switch to Ajax.
