On Wednesday evening, the people of the theater celebrated the most important event of the year – “The Night of the Gambler”, where, among other things, the prize for the best actress was presented to the longtime admirer of Putin’s regime, now the actress of the New Riga Theater, Chulpana Hamatova.
The actress has been living in Latvia since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has received the favor of Alvjas Hermanis, director of the Riga New Theater. The best actress award was given to Chulpana Hamatova for her role in the monologue “Post Scriptum”.
Social network users are really confused by the decision of the “Night of Gamblers” jury to award the actress of the year award to an actress of Russian origin who supported Putin’s regime for many years.
Jurgis Liepnieks writes: “hmm… I’m not a theater expert, but… the best actress in Latvia this year is the first year Putin supporter and agitator – Chulpana Hamatova? Seriously? Right now? This year? During the war? Who is on that jury? How to explain this example to our Ukrainian friends?”
Many commentators express their condemnation of the jury and “unearth” what the actress did in previous years, including filming in the occupied Crimea, shooting the film “Mirotvorets”. Santa Claus: “Is there such a level of artistic excellence that justifies the atrocities in Ukraine?” It was part of what enabled and contributed to Putin’s madness, no great acting can make it unheard of.

Alvi Herman’s opinion is different, who expresses on her FB account: “All those who today describe their indignation for Chulpan on social networks have two things in common: “They have not studied the facts and the biography of the actress; I have not seen the show “Post Scriptum”. Also, you should read Arthur Miller’s play “The Salem Witches”, which best describes how the mechanics of the witch hunt work. ” It should be noted that the actress delivered her acceptance speech in Latvian.
