Atlético received a proposal to resume its professional futsal team. The project is run by the same company that takes care of Galo Futebol Americano. The information was given this Monday (4) by President Sérgio Coelho in an interview with Super.FC. “We were contacted by the company that helps us in American football today. They have a project for futsal. Let’s talk. If there is financial viability, we will also conduct this sport”, explained the athletic president at an event to launch the social project of the pilot Sérgio Sette Câmara, in Vespasiano, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte.
O Super.FC found out details of the future partnership, which is in the cost assessment phase. Atlético will transfer the use of the brand, as happens in American football, and the new sport will not generate expenses for alvinegro.
The intention is to build a strong team to fight on equal terms with the main teams that dispute the National Futsal League. As soon as the project is completed, the company goes to the market in search of sponsors and sporting goods suppliers. Gyms are already being mapped in Belo Horizonte. The goal is to launch the team in 2022.
The Atletico futsal team marked a time between the 80s and 2000. The former Atlético Pax de Minas was two-time Brazilian champion of the Futsal League (1997 and 1999) and intercontinental champion in 1998. The world record for futsal attendance in closed gymnasium is owned by Galo. . The duel between Atlético and Rio de Janeiro, in 1999, had more than 25 thousand fans at Mineirinho.
Futsal stars such as Falcão, Lenísio, Vinícius, Manoel Tobias, Piu, Índio, among others, have already worn the alvinegra colors. Atlético’s futsal team was closed in 2009, during Alexandre Kalil’s administration, due to cost containment, as informed by the director at the time.
