Verbandslig +++ VfB Eppingen started preparations on Sunday
Light morning dew was still on the lawn of the HWH Arena when Christian Schweinfurth called for the first practice session. The new coach of VfB Eppingen deliberately chose Sunday morning to have time for a meal together in addition to the unit.

“I always like to start the preparation on a Sunday so that I can sit together afterwards without any worries.”, says the 34-year-old. His first impression is also positive, “There was a lot of effort in training for a gallop, it was great fun.”
The sports director was also happy. “The temperatures were tough, but don’t whine, the guys stepped on the gas straight away”, Oliver Späth watched with interest. He enjoyed the Sunday with the team and the sponsors, who were also invited to the barbecue afterwards.
During the week it remained intense on the training field. Tuesday and Wednesday we went to the pitch again and on Friday afternoon we have to travel to the training camp. In Gerchsheim, just outside of Würzburg, the half-timbered townspeople have often laid the foundations for later very successful association league seasons in the past.
It should be the same this time, until Sunday morning there are several sessions on the program before the team goes back to Eppingen and meets 1.CfR Pforzheim at 4.30 p.m. “We’re up against a strong opponent right away”, reports Schweinfurth and also refers to the three test games that are to follow. After Pforzheim is ahead of Bietigheim-Bissingen, Backnang and Sport-Union Neckarsulm. So it’s four times against upper division clubs and thus clubs higher in the class, including the reunion with ex-coach David Pfeiffer and his new club TSG Backnang, which comes to Eppingen on Saturday, July 16th.
Following the first test phase, things really get serious on July 24th. The Baden cup competition begins with a guest appearance at the Mannheim district league club SpVgg Wallstadt. Should VfB survive the first round as well as the second round the following week, there will be a competitive game every weekend from then on.
After the first round in Wallstadt, however, there are still three weeks left until the start of the league game, and that’s a tough one. On Friday evening on August 12th, VfB will host the opening game of the Verbandsliga, which is also a derby, with FC Zuzenhausen finally coming. “It’s great, a derby straight away and then at home”Schweinfurth can already see the anticipation.

Since the association league will start with 17 teams in the next round, those responsible for the association had to accommodate four more game days in the framework schedule. The first impact of this is felt immediately as an English week is imminent. Four days after the Zuze game, the Eppingers have to go to SV Langensteinbach before top favorite VfR Mannheim hand in their business card in the “cage” on Saturday and a week later another derby at newly promoted VfB Bretten from Central Baden.
The first week of training encourages the optimism of those responsible for sports, since, with the exception of a few vacationers, everyone is on board and highly motivated. Among them are the newcomers to the experienced, long-standing Oberliga goalkeeper Andreas Dups and Marc Zengerle from Kürnbach, who probably had the shortest summer break in German amateur football. 15 days after the successful relegation with TSV Kürnbach, the 26-year-old was back on the field for the opening training session in Eppingen.
In between, there will always be someone on vacation, but all in all it is limited, as Schweinfurth assures and explains sympathetically: “Verbandliga or not, we are still in the amateur field and on top of that we had a very short summer break.”
